   We Own the Narrative  



A community-based program led by Son of a Dream Services and Multimedia Resources, LLC, “Reflection of Us” is an enrichment program that uses media to offer a positive youth development experience for African-American youth ages 10-13. Our entry-level media curriculum is comprised of workshop instruction, project-based learning, experiential learning, and technical training.

Program Goals:


1) Goal: To increase participants’ exposure to culturally relevant life skills workshops.  

2) Goal: To increase participants’ competency and skill set in media production.

3) Goal: To increase participants' engagement with role models who are making a positive impact in their community.

4) Goal:  Participants will produce multimedia projects on important topics important to their community.

To teach Black youth how to use media to learn culturally relevant life skills, connect with positive role models, and produce projects on important topics in  their community.



Bobby Marvin Holmes, LMSW

Founder & Director  

A dynamic and well-rounded professional, Bobby Marvin Holmes is a licensed social worker with a diverse background in media and human services. Over the span of his career, he has established a reputation as a culturally competent practitioner with experience working with children, youth, & families in urban communities. In 2008, Holmes founded Son of a Dream Services and Multimedia Resources, LLC (www.sonofadream.com), a consulting and multimedia firm offering workshops and resources to schools, community-based programs, and human service agencies. Son of a Dream's multimedia resources include films ("Live Young Blood", "For Him I Will", and "Free Young Blood: Combating the Mass Incarceration of Black Males") and books (“Casey’s Day with Daddy” and “100! Real Talk for Our Boys”). As a staunch community advocate, Holmes has participated in several initiatives aimed at addressing community violence and empowering youth. A proud husband and father, he lives in Baltimore, Maryland with his wife and two daughters.

Cari Holmes

Programming Director

Cari Holmes is an educator who is passionate about using literacy to empower youth. A graduate of St. Mary's College of Maryland, Holmes's media background includes working as a copy editor for The Baltimore Times, a historic publication covering positive community stories of African-American life in Maryland. She later transitioned to education and spent a decade using her skillset to address learning gaps and build literacy among middle school students. Her work in the community includes supporting grassroots initiatives and serving a faith-based organization in the Park Heights neighborhood. Holmes is currently studying for her Master of Education in Literacy, Reading Specialist, while serving as an educator for the Baltimore County Public Schools. She lives in Baltimore, Maryland, a proud wife, and mother, with her husband and two daughters.
